My boy! I'm actually partial to girl dogs, but Freddie stole my heart with his loving personality and good looks. Little did I know what I was getting myself into with such a high-energy dog!
Freddie's official Flyball name is Red Dawn's Defender, FD, FDX, FDCH, FDCH-S, FDCH-G, FM, FMX. All those tags at the end are the titles he's earned in Flyball. This is a picture of Freddie in a tournament going over one of the jumps. I think you can see the focus and concentration (read Obsession) in his eyes. There is nothing that Freddie loves more than a tennis ball. Chasing after it in the yard is just as rewarding as retrieving it during Flyball. There's absolutely nothing this dog wouldn't do for a tennis ball!
Freddie was the first rescue that came in and didn't leave. All these years later, I still can't pinpoint just one reason because there are a number of them. He's a gorgeous chocolate Min Pin, he's a complete Momma's boy, he's fun to watch play, he's attentive and (for the most part) pretty well behaved. He does have the Napoleon syndrome going on (he's small so he acts like a tough guy to cover it up), but other than that, he's a joy.
If you're ever in the New England area and want to see Freddie fly down the lanes during a flyball tournament, look at the tournament schedule here. He's really a joy to watch and you can see the love he has for the sport!
When not running after tennis balls or barking at you to throw one, you can find Freddie curled up under a blanket on my lap, no matter where I am. He's a total Momma's boy and a big wimp that way. :) But, don't ever let his small size fool you. After all, he's not called Red Dawn's Defender for nothing!
Freddie received his 7th Flyball title - Flyball Masters Excellent (FMX) on September 30th, 2006. He is currently ranked 6th for Miniature Pinchers in Flyball.
Freddie's big treat for the new title was a McDonald's cheeseburger on the way home. :)
